Inquiry finds negligence in armoured vehicle transporter crash [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Army has found elements of negligence in the incident involving an armoured vehicle transporter at the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway on Nov 8.

Army chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan said the recently concluded inquiry by the investigation board identified elements of negligence involving the speed limit of the transporter.

"The findings identify weather conditions as one of the main causes of the accident, primarily due to slippery road surfaces. The momentum and weight of the truck, carrying two armoured vehicles, also contributed to the mishap.

"However, there were elements of negligence, specifically involving speeding beyond the limit set by our standard operating procedures (SOP)," he told a press conference after the rank conferment ceremony of a heroic soldier who saved four teenagers from drowning in Puncak Alam here.

As such, Hafizuddeain said, the army will not compromise on any act of negligence by anyone, whether it involves the driver or the convoy supervisor.

"We will assess the necessary actions, and those responsible will face disciplinary proceedings in line with military regulations.

"Military convoys operate under strict SOP, requiring escort vehicles and adherence to specified speed limits. This ensures the safety of other road users and protects the assets being transported.

"We are extremely careful when it comes to movements involving our vehicles and equipment to avoid endangering others or risking damage to government assets," he said.

Hafizuddeain added that there was no damage to the armoured vehicles involved and that only the transporter was damaged.

"There was damage to the trailer and transporter, with repair costs estimated at RM182,000," he said.

On Nov 8, the transporter, carrying two Adnan Type A armoured vehicles, part of a convoy en route from Kem Batu 10, Kuantan, to Kem Syed Sirajuddin, Gemas, was involved in an accident at KM35.2, between the Genting Sempah tunnel and the Gombak toll.
