Evacuations urged in Meru and Kapar if water levels continue to rise

KLANG: Residents in Meru, Kapar, and surrounding areas are urged to evacuate their homes immediately if the rain persists and water levels continue to rise.

Kapar Fire and Rescue head Yazli Yahya said that their monitoring indicates rising water levels coinciding with high tide.

"Flooding has been identified in several locations, including Persiaran Hamzah Alang, Jalan Sebaya, and Pekan Meru," he said.

"At this moment, the water level is increasing, and residents in this area are advised to be vigilant. If the water continues to rise, they should leave their homes as soon as possible on their own."

"If assistance arrives, it means that the water in those homes is too high. Residents should also take the initiative to evacuate to safety," he said during a monitoring visit to Persiaran Hamzah Alang today," Yazli said.

He added that, as a part of the ongoing monitoring, the team is equipped with one fire engine and a four-wheel drive vehicle, staffed by nine personnel.

"They are currently monitoring affected areas and temporary flood relief centers (PPS)," Yazli said.

"Today, the team is conducting evacuations for residents of Taman Seri Putri, including those with disabilities."

Yazli also advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas unless absolutely necessary.

"In situations like this, during a flood, avoid staying in flooded areas, especially since we cannot predict electrical currents or the presence of holes and drains that could cause slips and drownings," he said.

"Moreover, the river water levels are rising... it's possible for the current to become strong suddenly, and anything could happen."
