Rape case: Former comedy reality show contestant released on police bail

JOHOR BARU: A former participant of a local television comedy reality show, who was recently detained on suspicion of raping a woman in her 20s, has been released on police bail.

Johor Baru Selatan district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, confirmed the matter when contacted here today.

"The suspect was released on police bail yesterday, pending further instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office," he said briefly.

On Nov 29, the man in his 40s was remanded for five days to assist in the investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison, and shall also be liable to whipping.
