TUMPAT: Two male senior citizens were found drowned at two locations in Machang while checking on their livestock today.
These fatalities bring the number of flood-related deaths in Kelantan to five.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said one man, aged 72, was found at Kampung Kuala Sat and the other, aged 78, was found at Kampung Gelung Gajah.
He said both victims had ventured into the floodwaters to check on their livestock.
"The 72-year-old victim in Kampung Kuala Sat was reportedly checking on his cattle before being found drowned by family members around 8am.
"The 78-year-old victim in Kampung Gelung Gajah was said to have gone on a boat to check on his goats placed on a raft.
"It is believed that the victim drowned while monitoring the animals on the raft next to his house," he said in a press conference here today.
Yusoff said the authorities had advised the families of both victims to evacuate, but they refused.
He said this was due to their reluctance to leave their livestock behind.
"We advise the public, especially those living in flood-prone areas, to always follow the authorities' instructions," he said.
