Rising waters threaten 11 Jerantut villages as flood warning issued

KUANTAN: Eleven villages in Jerantut are at risk of flooding due to rising water levels in Sungai Pahang, according to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.

According to Buletin TV3, the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has issued a flood warning for areas including Kampung Kuala Retang, Kampung Sepial, Kampung Tanjung Bungor, Kampung Kuala Tembeling, Kampung Bantal Seberang, Kampung Batu Balak, Kampung Keluang, Kampung Sungai Yap, Kampung Pasir Durian, and Kampung Doja.

JPS warned that flooding was expected in these areas, with water levels projected to exceed danger thresholds.

"Low-lying areas within a five-kilometre radius of Sungai Pahang in Jerantut are expected to experience flooding," a JPS statement said.

As of the latest update, three rivers in Pahang have surpassed danger levels.

Sungai Pahang at Kuala Tembeling recorded a level of 53.25 metres, while Sungai Pahang at Jerantut Feri reached 49.11 metres.

Additionally, Sungai Lipis at Benta registered a water level of 75.89 metres.

"We are monitoring the situation closely, as several other rivers, including Sungai Jelai and Sungai Serting, have also breached warning levels," it added.
