[UPDATED] MACC probes high-ranking BAM official

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has opened a graft probe into a high-ranking BA of Malaysia (BAM) official, said its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

"I can confirm that we have opened an investigation into an individual and not on the body itself.

"This particular individual is a high-ranking member of the body," he said when contacted.

It was reported that MACC officers visited the Academy Badminton Malaysia last week.

BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh confirmed the matter.

"They (MACC officers) wanted to check some files.

"We will keep the media updated on the latest developments.

"All I can say for now is that the association is in good hands," he said.

According to a credible source, a poison pen letter was sent to MACC, alleging that a high-ranking officer from BAM had been receiving an allowance without approval from the BAM council.

The source said five officers from MACC were present at the BAM headquarters in Bukit Kiara on Nov 26 to examine several documents as part of their investigation.
