SUBANG JAYA: The proposal to prevent fraudulent housing developers from leaving the country will only apply to the developers themselves and not their family members.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming clarified this when asked about amendments to the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Act 1966 (Act 118) to include travel bans for the family members of developers found guilty of fraud.
"Unless someone is convicted by the court, we must respect the judiciary.
"Unless ordered by the court, it is the housing developer company director who will be barred, this does not involve their family members," he said after launching MyKiosk 2.0 at the Tapak Niaga Roundabout, Putra Heights here today.
Also present were the ministry's secretary general Datuk M Noor Azman Taib and Subang Jaya City Council mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.
Nga said if housing developers are convicted of fraud, which leads to abandoned housing projects, they would have their companies blacklisted and their directors would be barred from leaving the country.
"The National Housing Department will send the names of those blacklisted to the Immigration Department. So, when they reach the airport, they will be prohibited from departing," he said.
