Floods hit all upgraded GOF posts along Kelantan-Thailand border

TUMPAT: All newly upgraded General Operations Force (GOF) posts along the Kelantan-Thailand border have been inundated by floodwaters, said Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said the GOF posts in Kelantan were among 151 upgraded at a cost of RM45 million.

"I was informed by the state police chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, today that all GOF posts in the area were affected by the floods.

"As such, I have directed him to immediately assess the losses incurred by the posts inundated by floodwaters," he said.

Speaking to reporters after a briefing on the latest flood situation in the state, Saifuddin said the state police had been instructed to gather all necessary information.

On preparations for the second wave of floods, he said all agencies under the ministry, particularly the police, are ready to respond to another round of flooding.

"Their assets are fully prepared for the second wave, which is expected to begin next Sunday and continue until Dec 14.

"I have also instructed the Registration and Immigration Departments to simplify processes for flood victims who have lost important documents due to the floods," he added.

He added that the ministry's agencies have also been instructed to begin cleaning operations following the floods.

"I was informed that in some flood-affected states, like Kedah, cleaning efforts have already started. However, for Kelantan, I believe we will need to wait until after the second wave of floods," he said.
