PAC to initiate five proceedings next year

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will initiate five new proceedings next year, said its chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

Mas Ermieyati said the proceedings included issues relating to airport management under the Finance Ministry (MoF), Malaysia Airports Bhd (MAHB) and Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Khazanah).

"The proceedings are issued under Standing Order 77(1)(d), and will take place from Feb 3 to March 6 next year," she said during a press conference in Parliament today (Dec 12).

Mas Ermieyati said other proceedings were domestic investments by Khazanah under MoF and Khazanah Nasional; the land development in Kuala Lumpur under the Federal Territories Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall; the private healthcare service ecosystem, regulatory mechanisms, legal framework and financing methods through medical insurance under the MoF, Health Ministry and Bank Negara Malaysia; and the procurement of electric trains via a 30-year lease valued at RM10.7 billion under the Transport Ministry, Economy Ministry, Railway Assets Corporation and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd.

Mas Ermieyati said three ongoing issues would be carried forward to next year as they were under PAC investigation. These include the padi-planting programme management and the national water management.

"Another issue under PAC investigation is the accounts receivable management by the Inland Revenue Board."

She also said there were four issues for which reports would be finalised by the committee, including the implementation of the multilane fast flow system project, the management of rural water supply projects in Sarawak and Sabah, the 1Malaysia Development Berhad guarantee commitments and the procurement of the foreign workers centralised management system.

"All four of these issues will go through report preparation meetings, which will involve PAC ex-officio members, before being finalised through verification meetings."
