MAIS seeking parents of baby in freezer controversy

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has not received any complaints regarding the case of a baby boy's whose body was allegedly kept in a freezer for two weeks by a private hospital in Klang.

Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, said that MAIS, through its agency, Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS), is currently trying to locate the baby's parents.

"MAIS and its agencies, especially LZS and  Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE) have not received any complaints on the matter up to today.

"The incident occurred in Klang, and we only learned about it through the media. No one has come to LZS to report their hardship.

"We don't know the parents' names or the baby's name. We are now working to locate them," he said after sending off a flood relief convoy to Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah today.

Abdul Aziz further explained that each state has its own zakat centre, and Muslims facing hardship were encouraged to come forward and seek help.

"Normally, those in need, especially the asnaf, will be assisted to the best of our ability after receiving all the necessary details. Such incidents should not happen," he said.
