Police raid entertainment centre operating over hours, 122 detained

JOHOR BARU: Police detained 122 individuals for various offences in a raid on an entertainment centre operating beyond permitted hours here early yesterday morning.

In the special operation at about 2.30am, police inspected 211 individuals who were enjoying themselves at the premises.

Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar said investigations found that the premises had valid business and entertainment licenses but were operating beyond the stipulated hours.

"Initial urine screenings found that 63 local men, four local women, and 11 foreign women, all aged between 18 and 40, tested positive for methamphetamine, THC, ketamine, and benzo.

"Further inspections also found 2.07 grams of suspected ketamine, leading to the detention of four local men and four foreign women in two separate rooms at the premises.

"Police also detained 35 foreigners for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and one individual who was the cashier at the entertainment centre under the Johor Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 4/98," he said in a statement today.

Kumar said eight of those arrested were remanded for four days from yesterday until this Monday for further investigation under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while 70 others were remanded for two days from today for further investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
