BUTTERWORTH: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) has urged actress Rozita Che Wan and her eldest son, Ammar Effendy, to come to its office to discuss the repayment of a loan of nearly RM1 million.
Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki reiterated his call for the actress, better known as Che Ta, 51, to meet with Mara and repay the debt.
On whether Che Ta or her lawyer had gone to Mara's office to discuss the debt, Asyraf Wajdi said there had been no such meeting so far.
"The bankruptcy filing procedure will proceed. This is not the first legal action. This is the second time.
"The most important thing now is for them to come to Mara and discuss it," he said after the Penang Barisan Nasional Convention 2024 here today.
The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
It was reported that Mara was moving forward with bankruptcy proceedings against Che Ta and Ammar Effendy, 28, after they failed to repay a loan of nearly RM1 million since 2017.
The action came after they failed to settle the debt within the seven-year period, despite numerous attempts by Mara to recover the money, including taking legal action.
The loan, amounting to RM960,000, was issued to Rozita's company, RCW Worldwide Sdn Bhd, with both Rozita and her son serving as guarantors.
Mara had initially issued a bankruptcy notice to Rozita and her son in July last year.
However, the notice was withdrawn the following month due to technical issues, and a writ of seizure and sale (WSS) of the actress's assets was subsequently filed last Tuesday.
