KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry is working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to monitor digital platforms to protect children from sexual abuse on social media.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said her ministry was also working with the Education Ministry to organise related school programmes to address the issue.
"In addition, various parenting programmes and activities specifically for teenagers are also being organised.
"If any incidents are reported, I will immediately coordinate with MCMC to ensure prompt action is taken, as the commission has the authority to monitor social media content and, if necessary, remove inappropriate content," she said during the Question and Answer session at the Dewan Negara yesterday.
Nancy said this in response to a supplementary question from Senator Che Alias Hamid, who wanted to know how the ministry works with MCMC to monitor digital platforms, which are often used as mediums for sexual abuse against children. — BERNAMA
