MUAR: A 23-year-old man set to get engaged this Saturday and another scheduled to marry next year were among six people jointly charged at the Sessions Court here today with committing physical sexual assault against a teenager five years ago.
Hafsyal Sufian Kamaluddin and Muhammad Azizi Shamsor Kamar, 23, along with four others, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them before Judge Sayani Mohd Nor.
Also charged in the case were Azizi's twin brother, Muhammad Azizan, as well as Muhammad Asraf Rosli, 23; Muhammad Hafize Abd Rahim, 21; and Muhammad Amirul Aiman Sharrol, 21.
According to the charge sheet, all of the accused were charged with committing the offence against the girl, who was 16 at the time of the incident, at a house in Tangkak between 1.30am and 2am on Jan 20, 2019.
They were charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and whipping, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutors Danial Munir and and Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi prosecuted while all of the accused were not represented.
Earlier, the prosecution proposed bail of RM20,000 for each of the accused and requested the court to impose two additional conditions.
The court later granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety for each accused.
The court also ordered all if the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month and prohibit them from contacting the victim or prosecution witnesses.
The case has been set for mention on Jan 27 to facilitate the submission of documents and the appointment of lawyers for all accused.
