PENDANG: A 14-year-old boy's joyride on his grandfather's motorcycle caused a fatal crash which claimed his life and that of a couple in Jalan Alor Pudak-Titi Haji Idris here late yesterday.
Pendang police chief Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan said all three victims died on the spot from severe injuries in the 11.30pm incident.
Rodzi said an investigation revealed that the boy, a student of SMK Pendang from Kampung Paya Kelubi, was riding a Honda motorcycle without a valid driving licence and not wearing a crash helmet.
"The boy tried to overtake a Proton Wira driven by a 31-year-old man from Ayer Hitam towards Sungai Tiang, Pendang and crashed into another motorcyclist travelling in the opposite direction.
"The impact of the collision caused the Yamaha machine to crash on the right lane and the Proton Wira driver failed to avoid the 52-year-old motorcyclist and his pillion rider, aged 34," he said in a statement.
It is learnt that the victims, a husband and wife, hailed from Kampung Tanjung Musang, Pokok Sena.
Rodzi said all three victims died at the scene while the car driver, who works as a contractor, did not suffer any injuries. He said the bodies had been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-morterm.
