Number of flood victims in Hulu Terengganu rises to 112

HULU TERENGGANU: The number of flood victims in the district has increased from 55 to 112 as of 8pm today.

The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said that the increase in flood victims was due to the overflowing of rivers caused by continuous heavy rainfall from yesterday until this afternoon.

In its latest statement, following the rise in the number of victims, two new relief centres (PPS) have been opened, bringing the total number of operational PPS to four, which are now housing 112 victims from 37 families.

"The four PPS are Kampung Lubuk Periuk PPS (five families, 20 victims), Kampung Peneh Community Hall (14 families, 35 victims), Kampung Kemat Community Hall (12 families, 38 victims), and Kampung Cheting with 19 victims from six families."

According to the statement, all victims had taken the initiative to move to the PPS in their respective villages to avoid being trapped by the floodwaters.

"Due to frequent flooding, the residents are always prepared to relocate whenever heavy rainfall continues."
