Police seeking relative of a lost boy

PONTIAN: A 3-year-old boy was found alone near a cornfield on Jalan Tok Serah, Kampung Pulai Sebatang, yesterday.

Pontian district police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the child was discovered by a member of the public passing through the area at around 8.30am.

"The child was seen wandering near the cornfield before being taken to the Ayer Baloi police station. However, as of yesterday afternoon, no family members had reported him missing or come forward to claim him.

"During questioning, the child said his name was Ahmad or Armizi and that he had been with his aunt in the cornfield.

"However, after speaking with local residents, they were unable to identify the child and believe he may be from outside the area," he said.

Shofee added that the Pontian Social Welfare Department (JKM) took the child from the police station yesterday afternoon and brought him to Hospital Pontian for further examination.

"The child received medical care before being handed over to JKM for further care and protection," he said.

He appealed to any families or relatives who have lost a child to contact the Ayer Baloi police station head, Sergeant Major Norzizah Kechik, at 013-720 5161 or any nearby police station.
