PUTRAJAYA: The government is reviewing the registration applications of two unlicensed childcare centres in Selangor and Sarawak, following allegations of injury and death at both facilities.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said the applications must be carefully reconsidered due to the serious nature of the allegations.
"If we were to grant approval without thorough evaluation, it could compromise the safety and well-being of children," she told reporters after the launch of the plaque registration for Taska Seri Kandi here today.
She added that both cases are dependent on police investigations. One case in Selangor involves the tragic death of a child while the other in Sarawak includes allegations of physical abuse, where a child was reportedly bitten.
Nancy also confirmed that the childcare centre in Bandar Saujana Putra, Kuala Langat, has been ordered to close and cannot continue operations.
"The Social Welfare Department has sealed the premises, and they should no longer operate. Under the law, if they continue to operate, it is illegal," she said.
She asked parents to respect the closure and not insist on sending their children there.
"As a mother myself, I understand that many parents who work need a place to send their children. However, we must prioritise the safety of their children.
"Parents who want to send their children to daycare should look for a safer, registered facility.
"If a childcare centre does not have a registration plaque, it means it is unregistered. In such cases, parents should seek alternative, registered places."
