Yeoh working with City Hall to ease Mont Kiara jam [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Segambut member of parliament Hannah Yeoh has outlined several measures to tackle Mont Kiara's traffic woes in the short and long term.

Yeoh said she was coordinating with Kuala Lumpur City Hall to improve traffic management by adjusting traffic light timings, better junction designs, enhance signs and introduce road diversions to ease congestion.

"One significant improvement last year was the conversion of Jalan Sri Hartamas 22 into a two-way road, which has greatly eased traffic congestion, particularly for those exiting Mont Kiara and Hartamas.

"Our office conducts regular site visits with the City Hall team, almost every other week, to assess ways to alleviate congestion.

She said City Hall's Civil Engineering Department has identified several missing infrastructure links, with some projects in progress and others awaiting budget approval.

"We are pushing for the completion of the missing link connecting Jalan Desa Kiara to the Penchala Link, as this will offer residents an alternative route to exit Mont Kiara and Hartamas," she added.

Residents the New Straits Times spoke to acknowledged the positive impact of the short-term measures, particularly the conversion of Jalan Sri Hartamas 22, but remain sceptical of any lasting improvement.

Emily Tan, 27, felt the changes had made travel more efficient.

However, she noted that these efforts had not significantly improved the conditions on Jalan Kiara.

Another resident, who only wanted to be known as Joanne, 34, recognised the short-term improvements but questioned their overall effectiveness.

She said while the conversion of Jalan Sri Hartamas 22 to a two-way road had helped traffic, issues on Jalan Kiara, Jalan Kiara 3, Jalan Kiara 5 and Jalan Desa Kiara were unresolved.

Joanne said traffic light timings did not facilitate a smooth flow of vehicles, and there had been no progress on curbing illegal parking.
