#NSTviral: Woman succumbs to food poisoning two days after consuming spoiled sandwich [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: A tragic incident unfolded as a woman lost her life just two days after consuming a spoiled sandwich.

According to a Facebook post by Sahara Nabilah, the niece of the deceased, her late aunt suffered from food poisoning and was subsequently referred to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu, where she was pronounced dead.

The woman, who had travelled from Johor to Terengganu for her child's university registration, stopped to eat at the Perasing Rest and Recreation (RnR), where she purchased the sandwich.

"I just received news that my aunt passed away last night. She came from Johor and stopped to eat at the Perasing RnR, where she bought a sandwich.

"Unfortunately, it turned out to be spoiled. Both my aunt and her nephew suffered food poisoning, but my aunt was severely affected.

"She was in critical condition, vomiting, and experiencing non-stop diarrhea. She was admitted to Sultanah Nur Zahirah ICU and passed away last night," the post read.

New Straits Times has reached out to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital and the Health Ministry to confirm the cause of death.

Turning to the comment section, this tragic incident raises concerns about food safety in such service areas.

"That's precisely why I avoid eating at RnR areas. Most of the food there isn't fresh; it's often reheated multiple times. I find it better to purchase bread at the petrol pump or maybe grab a doughnut instead," said Helmi Mohd.

"Our family has refrained from stopping to eat at the RnR areas for quite some time. We've become disheartened due to the unpleasant smell and the presence of flies around the food.

"Instead, we opt for finding places with freshly prepared hot meals. Sometimes, we're content with grabbing some bread and water to enjoy a simple meal and relax inside our car," wrote Siti Zalina'Li.
