#NSTviral: Woman in viral 3-hour karaoke-lunch break says she doesn't work for the DoSM anymore

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman who overshared about having fun in a karaoke room during a three-hour lunch break is no longer attached to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).

The individual, known as Nana, who previously revealed that she was accepted to work in the department under the Malaysia Short-term Employment Programme (MySTEP) through a 'cable' (connection) said that her contract ended last year.

"I humbly apologise for my careless choice of words in the comment section of my TikTok account.

"I would like to clarify that I am no longer working there (in DoSM) as my contract ended last year.

"For information, the video was recorded in Sept last year and was simply meant for fun to show the surroundings of the place," she said through a video posted on her TikTok account.

Meanwhile, when contacted by the New Straits Times (NST), DoSM chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin confirmed that the employee is no longer with the department.

"Yes, she is no longer attached to the department," he briefly said when contacted.

Previously, Nana, through a video uploaded on TikTok had revealed about having fun in a karaoke room on a Friday following a three-hour lunch break.

The long lunch-hour break piqued netizen's interest who were curious about her job and her workplace.

Following this, Nana had also revealed that she had worked in a government office, where she was accepted through a 'cable' and said in a reply that her mother works in the same department as her.

She also added that she would often visit a nearby mall during her break.

While she never directly mentioned her position or employer, it was later revealed that she was attached to DoSM under MyStep.

Her revelation had left netizens flabbergasted and outraged with the government's recruitment system.

While some had noted that it was not uncommon for government employers to skip work on Friday, others had also noted about her 'cable' remarks.
