#NSTviral: Israeli leaflets dropped over Gaza ahead of Ramadan draw widespread condemnation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Israeli Army dropped anti-Hamas leaflets to Gazans ahead of Ramadan with pictures of Hamas leaders enjoying a lavish meal and Palestinians with near-empty plates.

A Gazan man, Attallah al-Satel, told Agence France-Presse: "What is the purpose of this leaflet? We want a solution, to stop the war. We are just exhausted citizens.

"We have nothing to do with the resistance, Hamas, Fatah or the government," he said.

He said they are simply trying to make a living so that they can go to work every morning to feed their children.

Belal Abu Sabla, a man displaced from Khan Yunis, the Gaza Strip's second largest urban area, claims that people are dying of hunger as a result of the Israeli occupation.

"The government in Gaza and outside Gaza (the West Bank), we demand that the war end immediately without any delay," he said.

Middle East Eye reported that Israel distributed leaflets wishing Palestinians Ramadan Kareem and reminding Gazans to provide for the needy.

This came at a time when thousands were at risk of starvation due to the Israeli blockade on food and water.

The leaflets, which were written in Arabic, include images of lanterns commonly used as Ramadan decorations and a prayer saying that "fasts are accepted, sins are forgiven and a delicious breaking of the fast,"

Palestinian journalist Hebh Jamal described the gesture as a form of psychological torture for Palestinians.

Human rights lawyer May el-Sadany described the move as "deeply depraved," claiming that Israel is "responsible for the starvation of the Palestinian people."

The war, started by the Oct 7 attack on Israel, has killed more than 31,000 Palestinians, according to the health ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza.
