KUALA LUMPUR: Can a fish form a bond with humans as a cat or a dog might? Many might be sceptical, but one white Kaloi fish is proving otherwise.
This remarkable fish has developed such a strong attachment to its owner that it only eats when fed by hand – and it prefers star fruit over traditional fish food.
The extraordinary bond between the Kaloi and its owner was captured in a TikTok video shared by the account "Shrekha fish lover."
The video, which has gone viral, shows the owner feeding the Kaloi star fruit pieces and interacting with it in Tamil.
In the footage, the woman is seen holding a plate of cut-up star fruit while engaging with the fish.
As she feeds the Kaloi, it responds to her presence, seemingly enjoying virtual strokes and paying attention to the fruit.
The Kaloi constantly sticks out its head for each piece of star fruit offered.
The video has garnered more than 16,000 likes and over 1,800 shares on TikTok, with more than 300 comments.
Viewers have expressed amazement at the fish's tameness and obedience.
One commenter, Che Rozilawati Che Rohim, remarked, "Why is my father's Kaloi so aggressive? When we feed it, it tries to bite our hand. Luckily, I managed to lift my hand quickly."
