KUALA LUMPUR: An illegally parked SUV at a busy city junction caused major traffic congestion in a popular tourist spot on Jalan Sultan recently.
A video posted on Reddit by @Reddit_Account2025 shows the white SUV obstructing traffic in a yellow box, inconveniencing other drivers, including a Rapid KL bus that struggled to manoeuvre around the vehicle.
In the 46-second clip, a man directs the bus driver through heavy traffic, ensuring the bus avoids hitting the SUV. The bus eventually makes it through, drawing loud cheers and applause from passersby and diners at a nearby packed restaurant who watched the drama unfold.
Netizens who flooded the comments section on Reddit shared their disbelief and disappointment.
@obiemo suggested: "Perhaps the government should allow tow truck companies to remove these vehicles and have them impounded."
@songdoremi asked: "Is there a penalty for this in Malaysia? In the US, the car would have been ticketed and towed."
Meanwhile, @RedmakesItgoFasta proposed stricter measures: "They should consider cancelling the licences of offenders and making it more difficult and costly to get a new one. Additionally, if caught without a licence, a penalty similar to that for drunk driving, such as a fine of RM10,000, could be implemented."
Another commenter, @JustFate390, said: "I wouldn't be surprised if the car owner is already at the scene but is too afraid to get in and move it due to the chaos."
@orz-_-orz wrote: "There's a large (paid) parking lot right next to the Mee Tarik restaurant."
