#NSTviral: Masjid India manhole covers bounce in heavy rain, sparking concerns [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A video of cement manhole covers bouncing frantically up and down during a heavy rainstorm on Jalan Masjid India has gone viral, with netizens expressing concerns over safety.

The clip, originally posted by user Lakshmi karthick on TikTok, shows cement manhole covers, which are normally extremely heavy, being lifted and moved by the force of water surging beneath them as passers-by observe.

Many netizens shared their shock and worry about the potential danger to those in the area.

"My goodness, the cement manhole covers are really heavy but here, it is just bouncing," said user AFIF_LONG.

Others questioned why businesses in the area continued despite the obvious risks.

"It's strange to see people still doing business in that area. Who will they blame if something goes wrong? Do you want safety or profit?" asked user @iezz81.

Several netizens speculated that the phenomenon was caused by water or air pressure building up beneath the covers.

"The water pressure underneath is so scary. The water must be moving rapidly," commented user EqiEn.

Another netizen, Asmahjumari, added, "The water pressure underneath is too strong. An unwanted incident may occur again. Hopefully, the authorities take initiative."

On Aug 31, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced the end of the SAR operation for G Vijaya Lakshmi, 48, an Indian national who fell into an eight-metre-deep sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India. The operation was concluded after nine days and transitioned to a 'search and recovery' phase.
