KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan has criticised Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for blaming the previous state government over the Sungai Lembu illegal factory issue in Penang.
Describing it as disgraceful, party president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said the DAP-led Penang state government should desist from politicising every issue, including environmental matters in the state.
“DAP’s fouled attempts do not bode well for any effort to prioritise public interest and develop the state,” Mah said in a statement today.
He told Lim that the people of Penang did not vote in a state government that was only good at pinning the blame on others and self-victimisation for the sake of defending its colleagues in DAP.
Mah said instead, Penang residents desired a state government that could not only serve effectively, but also take responsibility for its decisions.
“Barisan Nasional did not ask you not to close down illegal structures or businesses that existed before 2008.
“It is shameful and irresponsible of Lim to play the blame game to justify DAP’s inaction and failure to protect the environment and people despite after nine years in power.”
He said the state government chose not to take action against the illegal factories despite having the authority to do so.
“They only have themselves to blame and they should be held responsible for failing at their job and the people.”
Mah said Lim’s administration had forsaken its competency, accountability, and transparency (CAT), and that it would be no surprise if DAP tried to justify their wrongdoings, mistakes and failures in the future.
