NABAWAN: Arthur Joseph Kurup used to follow his father campaign. Now they switch roles.
The Barisan Nasional candidate for Pensiangan said he could not have asked for anything more with his father, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup, by his side.
The 36-year-old Arthur said his father had guided him the last 15 years since he began politics and was always by his side. “Now he is helping me campaign, how good can that be?” he asked.
“One advice he would always remind me is to put the interest of the people first, whether in your struggles or in making any decision. I stand by that policy,” he said when met during the launch of the 14th General Election Sabah BN Manifesto for Pensiangan here.
Joseph, the incumbent for the parliamentary constituency and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah president said he was confident Arthur will be able to shoulder the responsibility he handed down.
“I have little to worry about with Arthur because he has learnt from me and I am grateful he has matured and have the capabilities to lead,” Joseph said.
“When he used to follow me, I would always bring him to places where the hardcore poor lived. It was also where I taught him to understand why it is important to put the people first,” he said.
“With his experience, I hope the people of Pensiangan will give him the opportunity. Give the young a chance to show their commitment in helping the community.”
Earlier, Arthur announced four key thrusts in the 14th GE manifesto for Pensiangan.
The thrusts are to empower the community through education, develop the constituency through economic and infrastrutucture development, be sensitive to social and welfare needs and to focus on the needs of youths.
