PUTRAJAYA: As many as 83 per cent of the 278,590 early voters have fulfilled their voting responsibilities for the 14th General Election (GE14) yesterday.
The Election Commission (EC), in a statement, said the early voters consists of voters from the Armed Forces and the police, including retired personnel.
All the 586 voting centres nationwide were officially closed at 7pm.
The EC added that the voter turnout however did not include postal voters.
EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah yesterday said 278,580 were registered as early voters while 21,665 were postal voters.
He said the ballot papers would not be tallied on the same day but instead, would be kept in police lock-ups.
The ballot papers will only be tabulated on May 9 from 4pm with the process being witnessed by the candidates’ agents.
