SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has given his consent to appoint Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as the state menteri besar.
The Ruler's private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani in a press statement said the swearing-in ceremony and oath taking of the Selangor Menteri Besar will be held at 3pm tomorrow, after Friday prayers at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah, Klang.
“Azmin had an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin today at 12 noon to inform the results of the 14th General Election in Selangor as well as the current situation in the opposition coalition.
“Azmin had informed that he had received support from the Selangor state assemblymen to be appointed as Selangor Menteri Besar.
“Sultan of Selangor has given his blessings for the formation of the Selangor state government to be held as soon as possible after getting the mandate from the people, to ensure a smooth running of the state government as well as ensure the well-being of the people,” the statement read.
In GE14, out of 56 state seats, the opposition won 51 seats in Selangor while Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pas only managed to secure four and one seat respectively.
The opposition managed to retain the state for the third consecutive term since it took over from BN in the 12th General Election.
