Liow takes full responsibility for defeat, won't seek re-election

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai takes full responsibility for MCA’s defeat in the 14th General Election and will not be seeking re-election in the party.

“The party election is targeted to be held at the end of this year,” he said when contacted by NSTP, today.

Congratulating Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on his election victory, Liow wished Pakatan Harapan the best in forming the new Cabinet lineup.

He said MCA would play its role as the opposition in providing a check and balance to monitor the government, with the best interests of the people at heart.

“I urge MCA members to stay united in facing future challenges to ensure that the party remains stable.

“In the next MCA central committee brainstorming session, the party will further strengthen its position by focusing on its transformation programme, as well as discussing the political direction of MCA.”

In the 14th General Election, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai lost the Bentong parliamentary seat to PKR’s Wong Tack.
