SHAH ALAM: Sungai Kandis should be maintained as among the main agricultural zones in Selangor.
Sungai Kandis by-election candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said his proposal includes a special one-stop centre for locals to buy fresh vegetables and fruits.
The PKR man said there was a need to boost the farming sector although the constituency was undergoing brisk physical development.
“The farming sector has contributed much in increasing job opportunities and livelihood to the majority of locals here.
“For example, the two Taman Kekal Pertanian Makanan (TKPM) areas in Kampung Jalan Kebun Nd Kampung Johan Setia needs to be maintained as the centre produces vegetables and fruits.
“It has been proven that the two areas have been a boon to the the locals,” Zawawi said when met during campaign rounds in Jalan Kebun.
Zawawi also wants local youths to be roped into serious farming activity like chili fertigation.
“Their interest in agriculture can be nurtured through an education programme in schools.”
He also expressed hope for the Shah Alam City Council to increase the numbers of community agricultural gardens here.
