I warned Bersatu leaders about Umno but they ignored me, says Dr M

LANGKAWI: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said adverse effect faced by parties that collaborated with Umno was expected.

The former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman said he had forewarned on such adverse effect in working with the Barisan Nasional (BN) backbone but was ignored by the leaders from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) component member.

"I had warned that it will not be easy for Bersatu to cooperate with Umno as Umno is far stronger and Bersatu is a new party

"They said they can handle the problem and now we see Umno refusing to work with Bersatu," he told reporters after a walkabout at Pantai Chenang, here, today.

Dr Mahathir, who is the Langkawi Member of Parliament, said Bersatu was also facing a political crisis with several parties within PN, including Pas.

"Currently, if GE15 is held, no party will win outright and be in power (on their own) as the dominant party, the situation is likely to remain as it is now.

"There must be a coalition between the parties because, in Malaysia, no party has ruled the nation on its own," he said.
