KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has won the PKR president post unopposed.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, in a Facebook post on the running of the PKR polls today, said the Port Dickson Member of Parliament was the only candidate vying for the party's presidency for the 2022-2024 term.
"Repeating the history of the 2018 election, Anwar also retained the post unchallenged.
"This is the biggest honour from the grassroots of PKR," he said.
Anwar who is also the Pakatan Harapan chairman submitted his nomination papers yesterday via the ADIL application.
The nominations for the party polls began on April 8 and ended on Sunday (April 10), involving posts at the branches nationwide.
The PKR election was held for the first time in a hybrid manner; both physical and online through the ADIL application introduced by PKR on Feb 20.
The online voting process for voters is from May 18 to 20 and May 13 to 17 for physical voting.
At the same time, nominations for its vice-president posts saw 18 candidates vying for one of the four available spots.
Among those who have nominated their names for the post were PKR information chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, Selangor Menteri Besar and state PKR chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar and state PKR chairman Aminuddin Harun.
Other candidates include incumbent Chang Lih Kang, PKR communications director and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil, Wanita PKR chief and Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh, PKR chief organising secretary and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and former Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.
Also contesting for the post are former Perak PKR deputy chairman M.A. Tinagaran, Kapar MP Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Alor Setar MP Chan Ming Kai, former Kapar MP G. Manivannan and Sentosa assemblyman Dr G. Gunaraj.
Former vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar who stepped down from her position in 2018, had opted to stay out of the polls.
