Penang Gerakan wants to use logo for GE15 [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan will bring its grassroots voices to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) central working committee (CEC) this Saturday on the intention to contest using its own logo in the 15th general election (GE15).

State Gerakan chairman Oh Tong Keong said since it was what the party delegates wanted, he would pursue the matter.

Pas, another component party in PN, is also mulling to use its own symbol in states held by the party, namely Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah in the upcoming GE15.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin had recently urged Pas to use the coalition's symbol in GE15 as a show of unity and strength.

"We will continue to discuss the matter with the PN CWC this Saturday. We will hear what it has to say.

"I am merely bringing the grassroots' voices to the leadership. We will see how it goes from there," he told newsmen here today.

PN consists of Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia), Pas and Gerakan.

Elaborating, Oh said the party delegates intended to use the party's own logo as many people were still confused that Gerakan was no longer part of Barisan Nasional.

"Just yesterday, during our walkabout, some people came up to us to assure (us) that that they would vote for us (Gerakan), which is part of BN.

"We told them we are no longer in BN. This is why the delegates want us to contest using our own logo in GE15," he added.

Meanwhile, Oh, who is state PN deputy chairman, said the state PN leadership would finalise the candidates' list during a meeting tomorrow.

In the 14th general election (GE14), Gerakan contested in four parliamentary and 13 state seats.

"We are hoping to retain the previous seats and add a few more for both parliamentary and state seats.

"We will see how the discussion goes tomorrow. If we cannot reach a decision, then we will refer to the PN presidential council," he said, noting that one finalised, they would be sending their candidates' list to the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for vetting purposes.
