PUTRAJAYA: Voting day for the 15th General Election (GE15) has been set for Nov 19.
This was announced by the Election Commission (EC) Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh this afternoon.
Nomination day will be Nov 5, while early voting will take place Nov 15. Election candidates will have 14 days to campaign.
Abdul Ghani announced the dates in a packed media briefing which was also aired live after chairing a special EC meeting for about two hours.
On Oct 10, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of the 14th Parliament, which came into effect immediately after getting the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Only Perak, Pahang and Perlis subsequently dissolved their state assemblies to hold state elections simultaneously with GE15.
Several state legislative assemblies were not dissolved namely Melaka, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak as they just held state elections recently.
Three Pas-led states (Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah) and three states under Pakatan Harapan (Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan) did not dissolve their respective state assemblies, with elections only due next year.
The EC also announced that election for the Bugaya state seat in Sabah will be held simultaneously with GE15.
The Bugaya seat fell vacant after its representative, Manis Muka Mohd Darah of Warisan, died of a kidney disease on Nov 17, 2020.
The by-election for Bugaya was postponed after the King consented to declare emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
