KUALA LUMPUR: PKR has called on other political parties to follow in its stead and make their candidates declare their assets ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the move would help alleviate voter cynicism towards politicians.
"It is not too late for other political parties to follow PKR's footsteps in this matter. By doing so, there is no dilly-dally among the candidates in the eyes of the people. After all, it is only natural that you (the candidates) know your finances.
"If you find this difficult to do, don't blame the public for being suspicious," he said during a press conference held at the party's headquarters today.
Meanwhile, on the declaration of assets among PKR candidates, Rafizi said the party was almost done collecting the data and was in the process of uploading it onto the website https://calonkeadilan.org (https://calonkeadilan.org/)
"We hope to complete it one or two days before the nomination, and we invite voters to check the website from time to time.
"At PKR, this matter is vital to encourage a high turnout and active participation among young voters.
"We have candidates with integrity and education, who are willing to live under public scrutiny."
Yesterday, Rafizi became the first PKR candidate to declare his assets ahead of GE15.
In a statutory declaration, the Pandan candidate declared owning RM18,851,350 in net assets up to Oct 31.
In a Facebook post last Friday, Rafizi said the party's GE15 candidates will be required to declare their assets to enable voters to understand them better.
