KUALA NERANG: Umno disciplinary board will take action against its two leaders who had chosen to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15) on a Perikatan Nasional ticket.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the two leaders, incumbents for Arau, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, and Maran, Datuk Seri Ismail Abdul Muttalib, had violated Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno's constitutions.
Mahdzir said all party members were subject to rules and regulations, and the duo clearly disrespected them.
"To our friends, we have regulations set by our party. Everyone knows about the rules stipulated in BN's constitution.
"We are now facing the general election, and everyone knows that our position is achieved because of the component parties," he said after attending a wayang kulit performance in Padang Terap.
In the 14th General Election, Shahidan Kassim, who is caretaker federal territories minister, won the Arau seat with a majority of 4,856 votes, defeating Datuk Dr Abd Rahman Daud (PKR) and Hashim Jasin (Pas).
Ismail, who is caretaker deputy housing and local government minister, won the Maran parliamentary seat with a majority of 3,763 votes, defeating Hasenan Haron (Pas) and Ahmad Farid Ahmad Nordin (PKR).
They were, however, dropped from BN's list of GE15 candidates and were replaced by Rozabil Abd Rahman as Arau candidate and Datuk Seri Shahaniza Shamsudin for Maran seat.
