GE15: Paint sprayed on BN candidate's billboard, bunting

KULAI: Several Barisan Nasional (BN) posters and a billboard in Kampung Baru Senai here were vandalised last night.

BN candidate for Kulai Chua Jian Boon said a bunting was also pulled down.

He said his representative, Wong Pow Kyan, lodged a report at the Kulai police headquarters this morning.

"I was informed of the incident by my team at 9am. I think those who did this are irked by the fact that my ceramah last night drew almost 200 people. I assume they are worried about the presence of youths like me.

"This is the fifth police report lodged by me about incidents like this," said Chua, who was visiting flood victims in Kampung Baru Sengkang here.

He said with only days left in the campaign period, all parties should not try to humiliate any other candidate and instead practise mature politics in order to ensure the election process, including the campaign, goes on smoothly.

"This is a challenge. However, I hope if you want to fight, fight the right and mature way. I know it is difficult for me to win in Kulai but I will maintain my spirit and try my best," said Chua.

Kulai police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said a BN operations room chief made a report at 10am.

"An investigating officer and a team from the Kulai Criminal Investigation Departnent went to the location and found that the word 'rat' had been spray-painted on the face of the candidate on the billboard and bunting," said Tok.
