KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) today said it is collaborating with the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) to investigate the allegation that the personal data of more than 800,000 voters was leaked from its MySPR website.
In a brief statement on its Twitter handle, EC said this was old allegation that resurfaced.
"Regardless, we are working with Nacsa to investigate the matter. The EC has taken the necessary action to ensure that the system is not breached.
"EC always ensures that voters personal data are safeguarded with continuous monitoring, using effective security infrastructure."
It was alleged that the personal details of 800,000 voters, comprising 67GB of data, including full names, identification numbers, email addresses, birth dates and home addresses, supposedly from the EC database, was up for "sale" on an online marketplace for a mere US$2,000.
