Hadi: Pas states doing well despite being sidelined by federal government

GEORGE TOWN: Pas-led states are doing well, despite being sidelined by the federal government, party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said.

He said the pressure was deliberately applied, especially in the administrative and economic aspects since Pas took over Kelantan and Terengganu.

"Among them is the intervention of state affairs such as establishing a village committee in the federal department to intervene in state affairs.

"(This includes) Delaying the decision of the grant when we rule Terengganu, they (the federal government) confiscated petroleum royalties. (The federal government) Broke the agreement and Kelantan could not have a share of the royalties until now.

"These are examples… to 'trouble' the (states') economy," he told a press conference at the state Gerakan headquarters here late last night.

Hadi said despite these issues, Pas has managed to survive because of frugal spending, integrity within the party and the support of the people.

Prior to this, Hadi, through his official Facebook page Minda Presiden, had alleged that states under Pas experienced difficulties when they were sidelined in various ways, either openly or hidden.

He said Pas had governed the states with very limited power, and the actions of the federal government were clearly against the concept of federalism and democracy practiced in the West.

In a separate development, Hadi said there were few parties trying to trigger Islamophobia because they were unhappy with the peace that Malaysia enjoys.

"The plural and harmonious society that exists in this country is an example for the whole world. This causes some of them to try to break this using Islamophobia and creating tension.

"Islamphobia is deliberately caused by the enemies of Islam, who are unhappy with the peace in our country," he said.
