Ku Li is now Umno's adviser, says Ahmad Maslan

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno today appointed Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah as the party's adviser under the recommendation of party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The matter was confirmed by Umno Supreme Council Member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan at a meeting with the head, deputy and vice-head of Umno nationwide at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

"Umno veterans agreed by standing up in the ceremony when Tengku Razaleigh's name was proposed by Zahid," said Ahmad, the party's former Umno secretary-general, to Berita Harian today.

Tengku Razaleigh or Ku Li has been a Member of Parliament for Gua Musang since 1974, when the area was known as Ulu Kelantan, but failed to retain the seat in the 15th General Election (GE15), last November.

He lost to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate, Azizi Abu Naim with a lack of 163 votes.

Last year, Tengku Razaleigh said he would leave politics after GE15.
