KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional's Hulu Kelang candidate Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali is optimistic that the coalition will be able to form the new Selangor government tonight.
He said this was due to the support seen during the campaign trail and the turnout seen at the coalition's 'Grand Finale' ceramah.
"I am very optimistic of the support in Hulu Kelang. It is a manifestation of the people's discontent (of the state administration) not only in Selangor but throughout the country.
"So, Insya Allah, with the support we saw in the last two weeks and especially during our grand finale, I am confident we (PN) will secure a majority in Hulu Kelang and many other states seats in Selangor," he told reporters after casting his vote at SK Klang Gates, here, today.
Azmin had arrived at the polling centre at 8.50am. Clad in blue shirt, Azmin was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Shamshida Taharin.
He is in a straight fight with his former comrade Juwairiya Zulkifli from Pakatan Harapan for the Hulu Kelang state seat.
Azmin, who is the Selangor PN chairman is eturning to Hulu Kelang after more than 24 years. He had won the state seat under PKR in 1999.
He previously held the Bukit Antarabangsa seat which he won under PKR ticket in the 14th General Election.
The former Selangor menteri besar later defected to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) following the Sheraton move in 2020.
