With as little as 30 votes, some seats see razor-thin wins

KUALA LUMPUR: For the Taman Medan state seat in Selangor, Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Dr Afif Bahardin emerged victorious with a razor-thin majority of just 30 votes.

Having garnered 22,316 votes, he narrowly defeated his rival from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik, who put up a fierce fight to gain 22,286 votes.

Dr Afif Bahardin, a former Member of the State Executive Council of Penang, had previously faced defeat in the 15th General Election (PRU-15) in the Shah Alam parliamentary constituency.

Meanwhile, PN candidate Muhammad Hilman Idham defended the Gombak Setia seat which he won in GE-14 with a slightly larger majority of 58 votes.

Muhammad Hilman secured 30,299 undi, diikuti Megat Zulkarnain (30,241) dan Mohamed Salim, 1,076 undi.

Hilman beat BN candidate Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, who is also Selangor Umno liaison chairman and independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali.

Sungai Kandis witnessed a close battle between Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad from PN who won with 28,926 votes defeating Zawawi Mughni from Pakatan Harapan with 28,759.

Afriena Shaqira from Muda secured 1,341 votes, prompting PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzi to comment that Muda may have cost the unity government a state seat to the opposition party.
