KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-five members of Parliament (MPs) and 58 state assemblymen in Bersatu have affirmed their undivided support to the party by signing a 'Special Directive of the Supreme Council' letter.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a statement, said the MPs and state assemblymen signed the letter and sent it back to the party's secretary-general within 14 days as requested.
Yesterday, (May 31) was the last day for response to the secretary-general.
"The instruction by the supreme council was made in line with the amendment to the Bersatu constitution, which was approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and complies with the requirements of Article 49A of the Federal Constitution, regarding anti-party hopping.
"I would like to express my thanks to the Bersatu Special Committee who worked hard to complete the Special Directive of the Supreme Council in an orderly and thorough manner, complying with all legal requirements," he said.
He added according to Clause 10.4 of the party's constitution, disobedience to any directive issued by the supreme council will result in the automatic termination of the party's membership.
There are 31 Bersatu MPs.
On May 17, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the party sent letters to all its elected representatives for all of them to affirm their undivided support and loyalty to the party.
He also said that the six Bersatu 'rebels' had received a letter with specific directives to respond within 14 days.
The six MPs had declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The six MPs are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abu Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
One assemblyman, Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari (Selat Klang) also declared support for the unity government.
