[UPDATED] Seven members to receive notice of ceased membership 'in next day or two': Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu will send a letter to the Dewan Rakyat, Selangor and Kelantan state assemblies speakers "as soon as possible" on the status of its seven rogue representatives who shifted allegiance to the Unity Government.

Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said they will first send notices to the seven representatives in the next day or two that their memberships have ceased.

Muhyiddin assured that they are "not in a rush" to send the notices and would only do so after seeking legal advice and go through the necessary procedures.

"Bersatu will take follow-up actions on the six members of parliaments (MPs) and assemblyman. Letters to notify them that their membership has ceased in a day or two.

"After that, we will notify it to the speaker of the parliament on the six MPs, the Selangor state assembly speaker for the Selat Klang seat and the Kelantan state assembly speaker on the Nenggiri seat.

"This decision was made following Bersatu's constitution amendments which were approved by the registrar of societies. All the necessary steps were taken following advice from lawyers," he said after a Perikatan Nasional leadership council meeting today.

When asked whether they would send the letter to the speakers this week, Muhyiddin said they would send it "as soon as possible".

Muhyiddin said they first have to go through the necessary process first and that they are not in a rush to cease their membership.

The six MPs who went rogue since last year are Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi.

On March 6, Selat Klang state representative Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari of Bersatu also shifted his allegiance to the Unity Government.

Mohd Azizi Abu Naim is also the Nenggiri assemblyman.

Bersatu recently amended its party constitution to automatically nullify the membership of any of its elected representatives who shift their allegiance to rival parties.
