Late Sungai Bakap assemblyman's special officer is PN candidate

NIBONG TEBAL: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will field Pas' Abidin Ismail for the Sungai Bakap by-election on July 6.

Announcing this tonight, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party had decided to field Abidin, who was the late Sungai Bakap assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff's special officer to contest in the election.

"We are confident that he will be able to carry his job well if elected as the new assemblyman.

"We hope that the people of Sungai Bakap will continue to retain our candidate as their new elected assemblyman ," he said during the candidate announcement here tonight.

He added that Abidin is well-liked by everyone.

Tuan Ibrahim said Abidin, 56, who hails from Sungai Duri, is a local face in Sungai Bakap, having been born and raised here.

Abidin is the Pas Nibong Tebal vice-chief and chairman of the Sungai Duri mosque.

When addressing the crowd, Abidin thanked the PN leadership for entrusting him as the candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election.

"I also want to thank the whole election machinery who came from all over the country to help in Sungai Bakap. I thank each and everyone for all their sacrifices.

"If I am elected, I will continue with the legacy of Abang Zam (the late assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff).

"I was very close to him and for the past eight to nine months, I have learned many things from him," he said.

Abidin also appealed to the voters in Sungai Bakap to continue to vote and retain PN in the by-election.

On Wednesday, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the coalition would name their candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election tonight.

He said the candidate would be from Pas.
