GUA.MUSANG: Barisan Nasional's women wing must get ready for house-to-house campaigning for the Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan today said the wing must work hard to ensure BN won the state seat.
He added house-to-house visits were part of the party's plan to woo voters.
"The women's wing must carry out two types of visits: 'Ziarah Kasih' and 'Ziarah Mesra'.
"'Ziarah Kasih' is the normal house-to-house visit while the other is about visiting the homes of 'influencers', such as imam and Orang Asli village heads.
"BN wants the wing to get ready to take part in this programme to help our candidate, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, win the battle," he said before the launch of the BN election machinery here.
Ahmad, who is deputy works minister, said: "Meanwhile, BN wants the men to approach voters who're on the fence and invite them to attend our ceramah."
He said he was confident Azmawi could make an impact among voters.
"This young man holds many positions in the party and community. He is well known to the people. So we believe in his chances of winning."
The by-election was called after state Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the seat vacant. It was previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.
Azizi, who is Gua Musang member of parliament, was among the seven elected representatives dismissed from Bersatu for supporting the unity government.
In the state election last year, Azizi won by an 810-vote majority in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
