KOTA BARU: Kelantan Umno believes that its state youth chief, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, has the advantage and can help the party win the Nenggiri state seat in the Aug 17 by-election.
State Umno information chief Datuk Zawawi Othman said the party is unfazed by Perikatan Nasional, which is speculated to field an ex-serviceman as their candidate for the by-election.
Zawawi added that Azmawi, who is also the Gua Musang Umno Youth chief, has more experience compared to the PN candidate from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
"We are highly confident and upbeat that our candidate can beat PN's ex-serviceman in the upcoming by-election," he said when contacted.
Zawawi claimed that Bersatu was lacking in talent and had no choice but to field the ex-serviceman to represent the party in the by-election.
"I also suspect some of the top gun and members both in the party's leadership and division are not happy with the selection," he claimed.
It was reported yesterday Bersatu will likely field an ex-serviceman, who is a local from the state, as its candidate in the by-election.
