All Umno elected representatives subjected to RM100 million bond, says Zahid

GUA MUSANG: All Umno elected representatives who quit to join another party must pay the RM100 million bond which they had agreed upon when becoming Barisan Nasional candidates.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the rule applies to every BN assemblymen or member parliament.

He said this when commenting on the party's move to initiate legal action against Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis who left Umno to join Pas.

"All BN elected representatives must take this oath and this is something that is agreed upon to ensure they do not leave the party.

"If they leave the party, they are subjected to the RM100 million which must be compensated (to the party)," said Zahid, who is deputy prime minister.

He was speaking at a press conference after witnessing the handing over of Umno membership forms from 480 former Bersatu members at Kampung Jerek here today.

On Wednesday, the Umno supreme council had said it would initiate legal action against Jailani, who switched his allegiance to join Pas.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had said the legal action aimed to claim RM100 million in compensation, as stipulated in the agreement against representatives who have left and betrayed the party's stance.

On July 16, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had announced that Jailani Khamis has officially joined Pas.

When elaborating on Jailani's case, Zahid confirmed that letter of demand has been issued to the former Umno member.

"BN recently issued the letter of demand to the former Rembia assemblyman who joined Pas last month," he added.

On July 16, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced that the Rembia assemblyman had officially joined Pas.

Takiyuddin had said that Jailani became a member of the party in June last year, after an application was made by the latter on June 10.
