Nenggiri by-election: EC confident meeting 60 per cent voter turnout target

GUA MUSANG: The Election Commission is confident that it can achieve the target of 60 per cent voter turnout for the Nenggiri state seat by-election today.

"We have targetted more than 60 percent of voter turnout for the polling day today.

"Based on the trend of voter turnout since this morning, we are highly confident that the number of voters turnout for the Nenggiri by-election will reach our target," EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said.

The commission, in its hourly updates, said 51.03 per cent of the 20,216 eligible ordinary voters have cast their ballots as of noon today.

The voter turnout reached 58.79 per cent at 1pm.

On a related matter, Ramlan said there was only one election offence involving a political party reported to the commission throughout the campaigning period of the by-election.

"It is only a small offence involving a party poster that did not meet the conditions set by the EC," he said.

Ramlan also said the EC expected the result of the by-election would be known the earliest before 9pm.

Earlier, Ramlan visited SK Jeram Tekoh here to inspect the voting process for the state by-election.

The by-election is seeing a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Rizwadi Ismail of Perikatan Nasional.
